Claude Skills Enhance AI Task Performance

Claude has launched Skills, a feature designed to enhance its task performance. Skills are folders containing instructions, scripts, and resources that Claude can access when relevant.

Skills improve Claude's capabilities in specialized tasks, such as working with Excel or adhering to brand guidelines.

“Skills teaches Claude how to work with Box content,” said Yashodha Bhavnani, Head of AI at Box.

“Users can transform stored files into PowerPoint presentations, Excel spreadsheets, and Word documents that follow their organization's standards, saving hours of effort.”

Skills are available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users. They automatically invoke relevant skills based on the task, eliminating the need for manual selection.

The "skill-creator" skill provides interactive guidance for creating custom skills.

Claude Skills can be integrated into the Messages API, allowing developers to manage custom skill versioning. Skills require the Code Execution Tool beta for secure operation.

“With Skills, Claude works seamlessly with Notion,” said MJ Felix, Product Manager at Notion.
