Anthropic is bringing Claude Code into Slack. Developers can now hand off full coding tasks directly from chat threads. The beta ships Monday as a research preview and turns Slack into a place where coding work actually happens, not just where it’s discussed.

The earlier Claude-in-Slack integration was lightweight. Snippets, debugging, explanations. Now developers can tag @Claude to launch a full coding session using context from the thread — bug reports, feature requests, design notes. Claude scans recent messages to pick the right repo, posts progress updates, and links out to reviews and pull requests.

This marks a clear shift. Coding assistants are moving out of IDEs and into collaboration tools where teams spend most of their time. Cursor already drafts code inside Slack threads. GitHub Copilot can generate pull requests from chat. OpenAI’s Codex shows up through custom Slack bots.

Slack benefits too. If Slack becomes the “agentic hub” that ties AI systems to workplace context, the AI tool with the deepest integration could shape how engineering teams operate.

Claude Code, and tools like it, push toward a workflow where conversation turns into code with no app-switching. The boundary between planning and execution gets thinner.

Anthropic has not said when the feature will exit beta. But the timing matters. AI coding tools are getting crowded, and the edge is shifting from model strength to integration depth and distribution. The fight is moving to the platforms where teams already live.
