A group of Chinese filmmakers plan to 'remake' classic Kung Fu movies in a new AI project.

The group of Chinese film studios and the China Film Foundation have launched the Kung Fu Film Heritage Project, at the Shanghai International Film Festival (which began on Thursday).

The initiative aims to restore 100 seminal martial-arts films, including Bruce Lee’s Fist of Fury, Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master, Jet Li’s Once Upon a Time in China and John Woo’s A Better Tomorrow.

AI technology will enhance resolution, sound quality and overall production values while preserving narrative integrity.

China Film Foundation chair Zhang Qilin described the iconic movies as 'cinematic calling cards to the world'.

Meanwhile, the festival saw the debut of "A Better Tomorrow: Cyber Border" which is presented as the world’s first fully AI-produced animated feature, created with a team of 30 people over a period of only months.
