Grid Aero, an automated aircraft start-up, has raised $20 million in a Series A round to scale its long‑range autonomous airlift.

The round was co‑led by Bison Ventures and Geodesic Capital, with participation from Stony Lonesome Group and Alumni Ventures and returning investors Ubiquity Ventures, Calibrate Ventures and Commonweal Ventures, the start-up said in an announcement.

“This funding allows us to rapidly field autonomous aircraft to deliver scalable capability into real‑world operations to meet growing demand across missions,” said Grid Aero CEO Arthur Dubois.

Grid Aero builds low‑cost autonomous aircraft which is says are designed to carry 'thousands of pounds over thousands of miles', enabling logistics operations across austere or degraded locations.

Ben Hemani, Founding Partner at Bison Ventures, praised the company’s speed of execution. “What Grid Aero has accomplished in less than 18 months is rare.

"Not only have they already built their flagship aircraft, but they are also building a logistics capability that operates where traditional systems can’t. We’re excited to fund the next phase of their growth, as they move from rapid development to real‑world scale,” Hemani said.

Grid Aero said the new funding will move its Lifter Lite aircraft from testing into operational deployments, support major exercises and early customer use cases, and accelerate the transition from a validated prototype to a fielded platform.

It also noted partnerships with Everts Air and Aviation Without Borders and cited alignment with three Department of Defense critical technology areas.
