News Corp journalists in Australia are reportedly unhappy about a new AI tool being rolled out in newsrooms.

The Murdoch media org recently began training journalists at The Australian, the Courier-Mail and Australia's Daily Telegraph with an AI writing assistant called 'NewsGPT'.

News Corp's 'NewsGPT' can adopt the style or persona of other writers to generate customised articles; meanwhile, another tool referred to as 'Story Cutter' acts as an AI‐driven subediting tool that could replace some page editors.

Workers' union The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance called the AI tools "a threat to jobs” and claimed they risk undermining “accountable journalism”.

News Corp has denied that the technology will be used to replace jobs, but instead will empower workplaces.
