Stan Ng is stepping down from Apple after a 31-year career, marking one of the most significant recent departures in a widening executive reshuffle at the company.
Ng, who most recently oversaw product marketing for Apple Watch, AirPods, Health and Home, confirmed the move in a public LinkedIn post first highlighted by Bloomberg.
His exit adds to a growing list of senior leadership changes across Apple’s hardware, design and services divisions.
A three-decade run across Apple’s biggest products
Ng joined Apple in 1995 as a senior system engineer before transitioning into product roles for the Mac. Over time, he became one of the company’s most influential product marketing leaders, helping shape messaging and launches across multiple flagship categories.
His portfolio expanded alongside Apple’s product evolution. After leading marketing for the iPod and later the iPhone, Ng went on to oversee Apple Watch and the company’s broader health initiatives. In 2021, Apple’s home products were added to his remit, further consolidating his role at the centre of the ecosystem.
In his farewell message, Ng shared an image of sunrise at Apple Park, noting that his iPod was playing It's a Beautiful Day by U2, a nod to the product line that helped define an era of Apple’s growth.
Part of a broader leadership transition
Ng’s departure is not an isolated event. It comes amid a broader wave of exits that is reshaping Apple’s senior ranks.
Recent changes include the departure of former chief operating officer Jeff Williams, along with design chief Alan Dye, environment and policy head Lisa Jackson, and AI leader John Giannandrea.
Taken together, the moves suggest a period of transition inside one of the world’s most tightly managed leadership structures. Apple has historically emphasised continuity, making clusters of senior departures particularly notable.
Responsibilities to be split across leadership
According to Bloomberg, Erik Treski, currently responsible for worldwide product marketing for AirPods and Home, will take on part of Ng’s responsibilities.
However, the full redistribution of Ng’s portfolio remains unclear. Given the breadth of his remit, spanning wearables, health and smart home, a single successor is unlikely. Instead, Apple appears set to divide oversight across multiple executives.
Further changes are already underway. Apple has moved its Health division under services chief Eddy Cue following Williams’ retirement, while Fitness+ leader Jay Blahnik is also expected to step down.
A pivotal moment for Apple’s ecosystem
Ng’s exit comes at a time when Apple’s focus areas, particularly health, wearables and the home, are becoming increasingly strategic. These categories sit at the intersection of hardware, software and services, requiring tight coordination across the company.

Losing a long-tenured executive with cross-product oversight introduces both risk and opportunity. On one hand, it removes institutional knowledge built over decades. On the other hand, it creates space for new leadership approaches as Apple navigates its next phase.
For Apple, the question is not whether it can replace individual executives, but how it maintains cohesion across an expanding ecosystem as its leadership bench evolves.
