The technology group said the eight-episode season will debut with one episode on its streaming platform, followed by weekly instalments every Friday through to 7 August.

Farrell reprises his role as private investigator John Sugar, who is drawn into a wider city conspiracy while looking into the troubled sibling of a rising boxer and continuing the search for his missing sister.

The new season features Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly and Sasha Calle, with Shea Whigham appearing as a guest.

Sam Catlin returns as showrunner and executive producer under his Short Drive Entertainment label. Farrell is also credited as an executive producer alongside Scott Greenberg and Chip Vucelich. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon produce for Genre Films under Kinberg’s overall agreement with Apple TV. The series was created by Mark Protosevich.

Apple described Sugar as “one of the best neo-noir thrillers in years” and said the first season is now available globally.

The Apple TV service is priced at $12.99 per month and includes a seven-day free trial for new users. A three-month promotional offer is available with qualifying purchases of select Apple devices.

The Recap

  • Season two of Sugar returns to Apple TV on 19 June.
