Apple is preparing to release The Savant, the Jessica Chastain thriller series it pulled from its schedule at the last minute last year, with the star confirming the show will finally reach viewers and Variety reporting a target launch in July.
Chastain told Variety "we're going to see it," ending months of uncertainty over whether the eight-part series would ever air.
The Savant follows an undercover investigator, played by Chastain, who infiltrates online hate groups in an effort to stop domestic extremists before they act.
It is based on a 2019 Cosmopolitan article about a former Marine and police officer who worked with the Anti-Defamation League, earning the nickname "the Savant" for her ability to identify when far-right extremists were preparing to commit violence.
Apple had originally scheduled the first two episodes to premiere on 26 September 2025, with the remainder to follow weekly through early November.
Three days before launch, the company postponed the series without explanation.
The delay was widely linked to the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk at a Utah college campus two weeks earlier, an event that heightened political tensions around domestic extremism, the show's central subject matter.
Apple said only that it had made the decision "after careful consideration" and looked forward to releasing the series at a future date.
Chastain publicly distanced herself from the decision, writing at the time that she was "not aligned" with the move and remained hopeful the show would reach audiences soon.
The postponement drew criticism from industry observers, with Variety calling it a "huge mistake" and arguing the series was precisely the kind of show America needed at that moment.
The situation grew more complicated weeks later when FBI director Kash Patel shut down the real-life programme on which the series is based, a partnership between the FBI and the ADL, describing the arrangement as "disgraceful."
Apple's listing for The Savant still labels it a 2025 series and states "coming at a later date," and the page does not appear to have been updated since the September delay.
