Apple said it has received six nominations for the 98th annual Academy Awards, with its racing drama F1 securing high-profile recognition including Best Picture.

In a statement, Apple said F1 earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing. The company added that Come See Me in the Good Light was nominated for Best Documentary Feature Film, while The Lost Bus received a nomination for Best Visual Effects.

“We are so grateful to the Academy for its recognition of F1, Come See Me in the Good Light, and The Lost Bus — three films that evoke the exhilaration of human connection and which have resonated with global audiences in distinct ways,” said Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of worldwide video. “It’s thrilling to see F1 nominated for Best Picture and to witness so many members of the groundbreaking creative team honoured, from visual effects and editing, to the film’s trailblazing sound.”

For a lay reader, the Best Picture category represents the Academy’s top prize, recognising overall excellence in filmmaking rather than a specific craft. Nominations for sound, editing and visual effects point to the technical complexity of F1, which centres on the high-speed world of Formula One racing and places heavy demands on audio design and visual realism.

Apple said F1 has become the highest-grossing sports feature film of all time and was named one of the National Board of Review’s Top 10 Films of 2025. It has also won two Critics Choice Awards, for Best Editing and Best Sound, underlining its strength in technical categories that often translate into Oscar recognition.

The documentary Come See Me in the Good Light marks Apple’s first nomination in the Best Documentary Feature Film category. The company said the film has also been recognised by the National Board of Review and the Cinema Eye Honors, positioning it as a significant step in Apple’s non-fiction slate.

All three nominated films are now streaming globally on Apple TV, Apple said. The company launched Apple TV in 2019 and has increasingly used high-budget original films to compete with established studios and streaming rivals, pairing global distribution with theatrical releases aimed at awards contention.

The Oscar winners will be announced on 15 March at a ceremony in Los Angeles. For Apple, the nominations offer further validation of its strategy to blend technology, distribution and premium filmmaking, as it seeks to establish Apple Original Films as a regular presence at the industry’s most prestigious awards.

The Recap

  • Apple received six Academy Award nominations this year.
  • F1 received four nominations, including Best Picture nod.
  • Winners to be revealed on 15 March in Los Angeles.
