Apple introduces new AirTag with expanded range
The next-generation AirTag adds longer Bluetooth range, stronger Precision Finding and a louder speaker.
Apple introduced a new AirTag with expanded connectivity range, improved Precision Finding and a louder speaker.
The device is powered by Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the company said in a statement.
The iPhone maker said the Precision Finding feature uses haptic, visual and audio feedback to guide users from up to 50 percent farther than the previous generation, and an upgraded Bluetooth chip expands the range at which items can be located.

For the first time, Precision Finding can be used on Apple Watch Series 9 or later, or Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, Apple said.
The redesigned internals make the AirTag 50 percent louder than the previous generation, enabling its sound to be heard from up to 2x farther, the company said. AirTag now includes a distinctive new chime and retains Precision Finding to help locate items such as keys and wallets.
If an AirTag is out of range of its paired iPhone, the Find My network can assist in locating it.
Apple said AirTag does not store location data or history on the device and that end-to-end encryption protects communication with the Find My network.
The product is designed for tracking objects, not people or pets, and includes protections against unwanted tracking such as cross-platform alerts and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers.
The enclosure uses 85 percent recycled plastic, magnets use 100 percent recycled rare earth elements, printed circuit boards have 100 percent recycled gold plating, and the paper packaging is 100 percent fiber-based. The FineWoven Key Ring uses 68 percent recycled content and is available in fox orange, midnight purple, navy, moss and black.

The new AirTag is available to order on apple.com and in the Apple Store app today and will be available at Apple Store locations later this week and at Apple Authorized Resellers.
