Apple has updated its Xcode development environment to support agentic coding, allowing developers to use artificial intelligence coding assistants such as Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex directly inside the platform.

The feature, introduced in Xcode 26.3, builds on AI capabilities first launched in version 26 and expands access to more of Xcode’s built-in tools and interfaces.

“Agentic coding supercharges productivity and creativity, streamlining the development workflow so developers can focus on innovation,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations.

Apple said the agents can search documentation, navigate project file structures, change settings, and capture Xcode Previews to verify and iterate through builds and code fixes. The update also introduces the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that allows developers to integrate any compatible agent or tool with Xcode.

Xcode 26.3 is available as a release candidate to members of the Apple Developer Program starting today, with general availability expected soon via the App Store.

Apple noted that agents from Anthropic and OpenAI may be subject to their respective terms of service.

The Recap

  • Xcode 26.3 adds agentic coding with integrated coding agents.
  • Agents can search docs, update settings, capture Xcode Previews.
  • Release candidate available to Apple Developer Program members today.
