America tops vibe coding ranks
America is top of the world's vibe-coding rankings, according to a research report that also claims up to $14.4 billion worth of AI-generated code was created last year.
A study by academics Simone Daniotti, Johannes Wachs, Xiangnan Feng and Frank Neffke, analysing 80 million GitHub submissions, found that US software developers are using AI coding assistants more than any other country.
Some 30.1% of Python functions from US sources were AI‐generated in 2024, the study found.
European coders were next - with Germany ranked second with 24.3%, and France third at 23.2% - followed by India (21.6%), Russia (15.4%) and China (11.7%).
The researchers estimate the annual value of AI‐assisted coding in the United States between $9.6 billion and $14.40 billion (based on the productivity and wage data).
They noted, meanwhile, that the research may in fact understate some portion of AI usage, for example, because the study focussed on GitHub is doesn't count code via China’s Gitee platform.
