European insurance group Allianz and Anthropic have entered a global partnership to accelerate the adoption of responsible artificial intelligence at Allianz, focusing on three projects across the Allianz Group.

The companies, in an announcement, said the collaboration centres on building foundational models and integration protocols, developing custom AI agents to automate workflows, and creating systems that log decisions and data sources for traceability and compliance.

Anthropic’s Claude models will be integrated into Allianz’s internal AI platform, free for all employees, and “Claude Code” is already redefining software development for thousands of Allianz developers globally, the statement said.

“With this partnership, Allianz is taking a decisive step to address critical AI challenges in insurance," said Allianz CEO Oliver Bäte.

"Anthropic’s focus on safety and transparency complements our strong dedication to customer excellence and stakeholder trust. Together, we are building solutions that prioritize what matters most to our customers while setting new standards for innovation and resilience.”

The partners said they are developing AI agents to orchestrate multistep workflows and automate tasks from intake documentation to claims processing in areas such as motor and health insurance, reducing manual steps and speeding first payments while keeping Allianz’s human-in-the-loop principle for sensitive cases.

They added they will co-develop systems that log every decision, rationale, and data source to meet insurance-specific risks and regulatory requirements.

“Insurance is an industry where the stakes of using AI are particularly high: the decisions can affect millions of people. Allianz and Anthropic both take that very seriously, and we look forward to working together to make insurance better for those who depend on it,” said Dario Amodei, CEO and Co-Founder of Anthropic.

The statement highlighted existing Allianz AI uses, including a multilingual voice assistant for roadside assistance, an Allianz Australia solution to automate food spoilage claims after power outages, and Allianz Versicherungs-AG’s ability to pay pet insurance invoices within four hours; it also said Allianz is investing in global learning programs to upskill employees for AI deployment.
